Mac focus app for the unconscious reach

MOM catches the phone grab before the scroll.

Start a focus session, keep working, and let MOM watch for the moment your hand reaches for your phone. The nudge is immediate. The camera frames stay on your Mac.

How it works

A focus session with a very opinionated witness.

MOM is intentionally narrow: start detection, let the local model look for phones, and get a small interruption when the habit shows up.

Step 1

Start a detection session.

The camera starts only when you ask MOM to watch. The main window can hide while the menu bar keeps session controls close.

  • Start, pause, resume, and stop controls
  • Five-minute pause for calls and 2FA
  • Menu bar controls while the session runs
Step 2

Detect the phone locally.

MOM checks webcam frames about once per second with a local YOLO model. The app waits for a continuous detection before it calls you out, then cools down before another alert.

  • Frames are processed in memory
  • No cloud vision API or frame uploads
  • Optional live preview in the app
Step 3

Get a corner nudge, then return.

A small MOM alert appears with a live local preview, confidence readout, a beep, and a Back to work button. If the phone leaves frame, the alert clears itself after a few clean checks.

  • Corner alert window instead of a lockout
  • Back to work dismiss action
  • Session recap with score and streaks

Privacy first

MOM watches the habit, not your life.

Webcam trust has to be earned. MOM's core promise is simple: image data stays local, is processed in memory, and is discarded after each check.

FAQ

Common questions

Does MOM record me?

No. Webcam frames are read into memory, checked on your Mac, and discarded. Nothing is written to disk and nothing is uploaded.

When does the camera run?

The camera starts when you start a detection session. Pausing, stopping, or ending the session releases the camera.

Will it slow my Mac down?

MOM checks roughly one frame per second and targets under 10% CPU on modern Macs during active detection.

What happens when MOM detects a phone?

After a short continuous detection window, MOM shows a compact alert with a live local preview, confidence readout, beep, and Back to work action.

What about Windows or Linux?

v1 is macOS only. Windows is planned for a later version, and Linux will be considered based on demand.

Builder note

For the moment your hand moves before your brain does.

MOM is not a phone prison. It is a visible, slightly annoying cue at the exact moment the habit starts. The app does one thing: catch the pickup, interrupt the loop, and send you back to the work.
